Hey Darling House pays homage to the past while thoughtfully embracing the needs of a modern, growing family. With ode to colour, rich texture and forms, this project was an exploration of how an inner-city home can feel light, airy and playfully sophisticated.

We explored contrasting joinery tones alongside an array of natural stones, applied in ways that feel both elevated and distinctive. By retaining many of the home’s original features, we honoured its character while intentionally transforming each space into a contemporary family home.

The design approach sought to create a series of spaces that each carry their own atmosphere and character, allowing the home to unfold as a sequence of experiences rather than a single, uniform interior. We considered a consistent language of details, materials, textures, and colour, applied in thoughtful and unexpected ways throughout the house.

The kitchen sits alongside a hidden powder room and bar. This area incorporates seamless, intelligent joinery solutions that discreetly conceal the entries to both spaces, turning them into hidden gems beside the kitchen. The kitchen itself feels incredibly unique, shaped by subtle design decisions that give it a somewhat traditional appearance at first glance. However, through the use of soft blue joinery and a layered mix of marbles, the more time you spend within the space, the more thoughtful details begin to reveal themselves.

With subtle colour drenching, this home still feels timeless, while the pops of colour add vitality and elegance without overwhelming the rooms. The result is a home grounded in longevity, robust in its construction, timeless in its aesthetic, and flexible enough to adapt as family life evolves, offering a sense of comfort and belonging for many years to come.
